Big Pictures, the entertainment arm of Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group, will market 18 new films for international buyers, distributors and media during the upcoming Cannes Film Festival 2009.
While Hrithik Roshan-Barbara Mori starrer Kites, directed by Anurag Basu, will serve as the flagship film of the company, the other films from the Big Pictures basket include various regional language films like Bengali, Marathi, Malayalam and Kannada.
Some of those films are: director Shaji N. Karun's latest Malayalam film Kutty Srank (also spelt Kuttyshranku), Bengali film director Baddhadeb Dasgupta's Janala, Rituparno Ghosh's Abhomaan and Shob Charitrao Kalponik, Kannada director M.S. Sathyu's Ijjodu and Marathi film actor and director Amol Palekar's Samaantar.
These films will not only be promoted to international buyers and distributors, but also be showcased to various festival directors who are keen on inviting these films for their festivals later this year.
BIG Pictures' other films in various production stages (Piyush Jha's Sikandar, David Dhawan's Do Knot Disturb, Shyam Benegal's Well Done Abba, Vinod Pande's Chaloo Movie, Simerjit Singh's Chak Jawana and Vinay Shukla's Mirch) will also be promoted during the Cannes Film Festival.
