2 inmates, including killer, flee Texas jail

LONGVIEW, Texas (AP) Authorities are searching for a convicted killer and a fellow inmate who escaped from a jail in eastern Texas.

Sheriff Maxey Cerliano (ser-lee-AH'-no) says 27-year-old Desmond Dewayne Jackson of Hallsville and 22-year-old Bruce Danjuane Kelly of Longview escaped from the Gregg County Jail.

The sheriff's department says deputies realized the inmates were missing Tuesday morning after someone found a jail uniform shirt outside the Gregg County Courthouse, which houses part of the jail.

Jackson was convicted this month in a 2007 shooting death during a pawn shop robbery in Longview. Jackson, who was sentenced to life in prison, planned to appeal.

Kelly was charged in a June robbery and slaying. He also faces two unrelated aggravated robbery counts.

It was not immediately known how the men escaped.
