5 killed in road accident in Asansol

May 19 : Five people were killed on the spot and two others injured when a dumper collided head-on with an LPG tanker near the J K Nagar Colliery under Asansol South police station in Burdwan district late last night.

Superintendent of Police Raja Rajasekharan today said the accident occurred as the driver of the dumper lost control over his vehicle which collided with the LPG tanker, causing both the vehicles to burst into flames.

Five people, including the driver of the dumper, died on the spot while two injured persons were rushed to Asansol subdivisional hospital.

Meanwhile, in a separate accident this morning at Dishergarh, two people sustained injuries when a truck collided with their motorbike.

The injured had been shifted to a nearby hospital but the truck driver managed to flee the spot.
