13 B goes to Shanghai Film Festival

Vikram Kumar directed Madhavan’s spooky thriller 13 B (Yaavarum Nalam in Tamil) has been selected to be screened at the 12th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) to be held from June 13 to 21.

SIFF is one of the foremost festivals in Asia which draws 300,000 audiences every year. This year, Danny Boyle, the Oscar winning director of Slumdog Millionaire, heads the jury. Besides the regular Film Market and Film Seminar, this year's nine-day festival will have a theme screening. Ten movies by master director Alfred Hitchcock will be shown for the first time.The festival will see a record 1,925 films, including 1,270 full-length features.

An excited Maddy spoke to media from Bangkok: “I think it’s a great honour for 13 Bas it is one of the big festivals where films from 70 countries compete. And what a coincidence that I got the good news yesterday May 13 and the festival will start on June 13. I think 13 has become lucky for me”

Director Vikram adds: “It just makes me happy that 13 b will be playing in front of an audience with a diverse culture and background. I am overwhelmed as the film has not only been a commercial hit but continues to get accolades from audiences and critics”.

Vikram along with Madhavan will be going to Shanghai when their film is being screened.

The fest also will feature an Asian New Talent award with nine entries among them Neeraj Pandey’s A Wednesday is the official entry from India. It is a competition platform for debut or second-time Asian filmmakers.
