Petition to take action against ex-MTC MD filed

May 20 : A petition has been filed in the Madras High seeking as to why a corruption case was not registered against former Managing Director of the Metropolitian Transport Corporation (MTC) Ramasubramanian, from whose office Rupees 6 lakh was recovered in a raid. The Officials of the Director of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) raided his house on March 9 and recovered Rupees six lakh.

Mr V R Krishnakumar, who filed the Criminal Original Petition, sought a direction to the DVAC to hand over the case to the CBI for appropriate action against Ramasubramanian.

In his petition, Mr Krishnakumar, referring to the raid at the office of Ramasubramanian, said the matter was not pursued by the State Anti-Graft Wing of the DVAC due to intervention by political leaders and higher officials.

Alleging that huge amount of public money had been misappropriated by the MTC authorities, he said the CBI should be directed to take over the case as the DVAC had failed to pursue it with due diligence.

''Ramasubramanian is attaining superannuation on May 31 and hence he should not be allowed to retire,'' Mr Krishnakumar contended and said hand-in-glove politicians and officials were trying to clear his way to retirement.

When the petition came up for hearing before Justice C T Selvam yesterday, the judge posted the matter for further hearing after vacation
