Karunanidhi refuses to comment on Prabhakaran's death

May 19 : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today refused to comment on the death of LTTE Leader Velupillai Prabhakaran, saying 'it is still an unconfirmed news'.

Talking to newspersons in New Delhi after calling on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi, he said Prabhakaran's death was still an unconfirmed news.

He said leaders (in Tamil Nadu), who supported the LTTE had issued statements even today, accusing the Sri Lankan government of spreading a disinformation campaign about the death of Prabhakaran.

''I have nothing to say on this unconfirmed news'', he said.

Asked whether he discussed the issue (about Prabhakaran's death) with Dr Singh and Ms Gandhi, the DMK leader, evading a direct reply, said he requested the leaders to provide succour to the Lankan Tamils and ensure that they live in peace.

Ms Gandhi, while addressing a poll rally in Chennai had promised to take all efforts to provide a peaceful life to the Tamils in Lanka.

Dr Singh had also expressed the same view, while addressing a press conference in Chennai, he said adding he requested the leaders to honour their committments.
