Vimala Raman, born and brought up in Australia, came to South India just three years ago, but today she speaks all four South Indian languages with finesse! “I have a knack for languages. I have learnt all the South Indian languages in a short span,” she beams.
Though she debuted in cinema with a Tamil movie, it’s in Mollywood that she carved a niche for herself. “I haven’t got a big hit in Kollywood so far. So I am waiting for that big break to happen,” she says. But she has a lot of hope in her upcoming Kannada release, Apthararakshaka, a sequel to Apthamitra [Chandramukhi in Tamil] a period film that gives her a platform to display her classical dance skills. “My classical training definitely came in handy. Playing Nagavalli, a courtesan dancer, is quite challenging. And I had loads of fun playing the part,” she says.
